Sheryl Drozd, MA, LMFT is Certified Irlen® diagnostician and director of Irlen San Francisco Bay Area. She became a Certified Irlen® Screener in 2004 and a Certified Irlen® diagnostician in 2016. From a young age Sheryl struggled with headaches, migraines and reading difficulties that resulted in poor grades. Despite her continuous hard work and commitment to her studies, she was labeled as “lazy, stupid, and uncaring”.
In college, she developed a coping mechanism by asking her classmates if she could copy their notebooks during lectures because looking at the light from the overhead projector triggered migraines. It was during one such lecture that she asked a random classmate who handed Sheryl her glasses, along with a smile, and said “try these”. The glasses were Irlen Spectral Filters and by sheer coincidence, the color was turned out to be the same base color for Sheryl's Irlen Spectral Filters and Irlen Overlay. Sheryl’s passion for assisting others with their own Irlen Spectral Filters was born the day of her initial Irlen Screening at the Manhattan, NY office. While reading the information pamphlet in the waiting room with her father, she exclaimed “I am going to grow up to do this!" The Irlen Overlays and Irlen Spectral Filter provided an instant support for Sheryl. They greatly reduced her headaches and migraines, increased visual processing speed and comprehension and from that point forward her grades were high enough to be on the Dean’s list. There is an emotional process and a positive shift in your self-esteem and confidence when you experience that you are capable of success. Supporting and witnessing this healing shift in her Irlen clients brings her great joy and spurs her passion for the Irlen Method.
Sheryl has assisted hundreds of individuals with their Irlen Spectral Filters and individualized academic and work accommodations. Sheryl frequently collaborates with the Amen Clinic and works closely with several of the leading San Francisco Bay Area Complex Chronic Illness medical providers, supporting patients with the Irlen Method. Sheryl is also a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist.
She is dedicated to helping adults, adolescents and families recover from trauma, loss and thrive while coping with chronic medical conditions. Trained in transpersonal psychology, trauma focused cognitive behavioral therapy and EMDR, she uses a holistic approach and is skilled in individualizing the care she offers. Serving in local nonprofit agencies and private practice, Sheryl has offered extensive support to foster and adoptive families and to individuals ready to deepen their personal relationships. Sheryl is able to help individuals reduce anxiety, improve their mood, restore hope, and reconnect with their community.
